[ -Description- ]
Realistic reconstruction of the famous and stately San Nicola di Bari Stadium,
Planned by the genial Italian Architect Renzo Piano.I've chosen the 'San Nicola' because I was fascinated by its particular construction,
In 'petal' modules.[ -Tips & Tricks- ]
After the usual search for documentation related to the structural details of the stadium,
I was able (thanks to Eng. Gianluca Morello) to enter into possession of some original project drawings,
that allowed me to plan a very accurate modeling procedure to build the 'San Nicola'.As already explained previously, this stadium has been planned in petal modules,
so that, I started with the typical module.
I've recovered the shape for the extrusion from the original for-construction drawings,
in order to get the first petal of the stand. The cover has been modeled with NURBS curves lofting. You have to know that the 'San Nicola' is perfecly symmetrical,
so that, concentrating all the efforts on a single quarter of the building was enough. To complete the project, I had to manually deploy all the seats inside the stand petals. TIPS
The involved seats, have been optimized. Be aware that I had to deploy more than 80.000 seats
to have an accurate matching with the existing building. For the handrails, I simply used splines,
that I made renderable only at rendering phase. That allowed me to reach a good and fast workflow.Once the first quarter was completed....
I just had to clone it .
to get the 'San Nicola' project ..
In all its magnificence and greatness!
